I have a love/hate relationship with Wrath of Heroes. Some days I’ll hop in for a quick match and have a great time and see the potential in its “MOBA-meets-MMORPG” battlegrounds. Other days, or even the next match I play, can swing my mood to frustration as I focus on the simplicity and what seems like a lack of depth in this game. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve seen the game grow so much throughout the beta. My pride for what the developers have done in a little time is making me cheer for the game from the sidelines. The in-game UI has made leaps and bounds and the menu-art and layout is phenomenal in my opinion. Maybe it’s the fact that I really enjoyed Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning that is making me want Wrath of Heroes to pick up where WAR left off. I want it to do well, so in some weird back-handed way it may help draw new players to its MMORPG counterpart.

Warhammer Online for $20
Gamestop is having a little sale, with some gems like Warhammer Online and Spore for $20. What are you waiting for? Go buy them if you haven’t already. I honestly think WAR‘s new price should just be $20 to begin with, could help with sales and get some new players into the game.
What are you playing this weekend?
After work tonight, I’m going to hunker down and try to knock out the last three Tome Unlock quests for the Bitter Rival’s event in WAR. I’m 7/10 right now, needing 8/10 to unlock Slayer/Choppa next week and 10/10 for the “Seriously Bitter” title. I don’t care for the title much, but I might as well get two more after unlocking the Slayer/Choppa at 8/10.
I installed the Vanguard Isle of Dawn Trial to check up on it, so I may hop on that and try a few classes. I really love how they start you off with a special armor set now, but at the same time, there is something fun about starting in rags and getting your first full set as you level up in an RPG that I’ve always found exciting.
I’m done with Darkfall. A friend and I have basically been sharing my preorder, and I just personally think the entire operation is a train wreck. Trying not to go on an uber nerd rage of disappointment from 5+ years of waiting, I’ll just say the game is not worth $50, is clunky in pretty much every facet of game design and execution, is the most sloppily handled MMO launch I’ve ever been a part of, and harbors a horrible player community (like most FFA pvp games). Some people seem to be having a blast in it, but I seriously can’t see why. I guess I just have higher MMORPG standards, now that the bar has been raised by over the years. The genre has evolved but Darkfall is living in the first generation of MMOs still with its buddies UO and AC.
Speaking of games I’m done with. I think I’m just over World of Warcraft. I want to get sucked back in, but I just can’t.
Other than that, maybe some Unreal Tournament 3 since it’s free on Steam this weekend. I’m mainly just counting down the days till March 10th and EVE Online: Apocrypha dropping so I can go pick up a copy in a store!

GG Mythic – Game Update 1.2 got me to reactivate.
Note to other developers – launching a fantastic in-game event with amazing rewards along with a mega patch is damn genius. Mythic continues to impress me with their post-launch determination and concentration on this game.

Weekend Confirmed: Friday LAN
My brah Zack is bringing his PC and Rock Band 2 drums over and we’re basically going to nerd it up, living off energy drinks and subway. Some Rock Band and Guitar Hero is bound to go down, as well as the usual Warcraft 3 and/or Starcraft LAN matches. As for MMOs, we’re going to both test the waters some more in Age of Conan, maybe install Guild Wars, and I’ll continue to try and resist reactivating Warhammer Online again, but the Public Test Server is calling me to come test thet Slayer and Choppa.
So, updates may be few and far between today and tomorrow – just a heads up. Have a great weekend!
About time: Dwarf Slayer / Orc Choppa
I realize I’m not exactly on the cutting edge with this news, but I honestly wasn’t sold until I saw the NYC Comic-Con demonstration of the classes in action. I’ll definitely be reactivating my WAR subscription when Orc Choppas and Dwarf Slayers drop into the live game. They sound amazingly fun to play with their berserker combat mechanic and play style, not to mention the Dwarf Slayer’s top-notch art design. I’d have to give the nudge to the Slayer on the principle of style alone, because well, the Orc Choppa just looks like a Black Orc dual wielding.
Watch these videos from NY Comic-Con and be sold:
NYC Comic-Con 09: Call To Arms Walkthrough Part 1 (Dwarf Slayer)
NYC Comic-Con o9: Call To Arms Walkthrough Part 2 (Orc Choppa)
Both classes will be rolled out as part of the “Night of Murder” ongoing live event, specifically in the “Bitter Rivals” portion of the event. Be sure to check back here when those patches start to roll out, I’ll be sure to be checking them out and reporting back.
